Turning a bland living room into a green oasis is an amazing way to help you relax and unwind. Being around greenery has been shown to stave off stress, elevate mood, and improve cognitive function. So, spending some green to green up your space can do wonders for your wellness and health! Here are some other ways plants help your overall well-being.
Reducing Background Noise
Our lives are filled with background noise, from the busy roads outside to our cellphones.
Large plants are very effective at absorbing sounds and creating a sense of tranquility in your space. Putting plants in the corners of rooms lets sound bounce off the walls and straight into the leaves.
Plants absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen during during photosynthesis. This is perfect for humans who produce carbon dioxide and release oxygen. Adding plants to interior spaces can help increase oxygen levels. Plants also remove certain toxins from the air, too – up to 87% of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) every 24 hours, according to NASA research.
During photosynthesis, plants release moisture vapour through a process called transpiration. This increases the humidity of the air, creating a natural humidifier in your home. Place several plants together for the ultimate natural humidifier.
Without getting too far into scientific research, the benefit of plants for improving our health and well-being is well established. Consider keeping potted plants around your work-space and discover your improved creative performance and problem-solving skills!
